Peak or mystical experiences are often described as being among the most profound and meaningful events of a person’s life. They are also a key predictor of long-term benefits associated with psychedelics, in both healthy and clinical populations. While they can occur spontaneously, they are rare and unpredictable. What does psychedelic research reveal about the factors that predict or potentiate these experiences, and how might these factors be optimised to maximise the chances of these experiences occurring?
